Nigerian Ernest Ezeajughi Elected First Black Mayor of London Borough of Brent, UK

61-year-old Ernest Ezeajughi was born in Awgbu town, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He had all his basic educational history in Anambra state till his first degree at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where he studied Applied Microbiology and graduated in 1998.

After the completion of his compulsory one year service to his nation, Nigeria(National Youths Service Corps), Ezeajughi worked briefly at Koval Linkworld Agencies Limited before he left Nigeria for England to be with his wife and family. Ezeajughi later obtained a Master’s degree from the prestigious King’s College in London, United Kingdom (UK). As a scientist by profession, he has worked with the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

Back in Nigeria, during Ezeajughi’s university days, he was actively involved in the student union politics and when he got to the UK, he channelled the same energy to their politics and it wasn’t long before he became an active member of the Labour party.

Ezeajughi later became one of the founding fathers of the UK Chapter of the Nigerian political party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) where he served as Chairman for 2years (2010 – 2012).

Ezeajughi was elected Councillor representing Stonebridge Ward at Brent Council 2years after. In one of their annual meeting at the London Borough of Brent, UK, the council members elected Ernest Ezeajughi as the first citizen of the Royal Borough. His work will entail acting as an ambassador at public affairs and at civic and ceremonial events.

Similarly, Olugbenga Babatola who became the first black Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, it’s great to know another nobleman emerged from Nigeria as the Royal Borough of Brent, UK.
