Part of the characteristics of living things is Adaptation. This is the innate ability to completely adjust to the nature of the environment they find themselves in. This means that the way they look, behave, are built and their way of life makes them suited to survive and reproduce in their habitats.
This is generally peculiar to humans and in one way the case of Nigerians in Ireland. One commendable act is that while they relocated and feeding their feet in their new environment, they wouldn’t totally neglect and forget their cultures and traditions from where they came. This was confirmed in their dedication of 10th Oct. to celebrate their culture.
It was a beautiful sight to behold as Nigerians in Ireland celebrated Yoruba culture in grand style with very colourful Ankara fabrics. The joy of being a part of the agelong culture was revived while being several miles away from home. Interestingly, some foreigners were spotted in the beautiful fabrics (‘Anko’ as Yorubas popularly call it) as well. They had joined to celebrate and appreciate the accommodating culture.
It was Home away from Home for Nigerians in Ireland.
