Chukwu Benjamin Ogbonna is a young man in his late twenties. He hails from Amaokwe Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He is the last child of 5children God blessed his parents with.
Life is not always fair for everyone and Chukwu had to taste of this bitter truth but God came through for him. After struggling through primary and secondary school he managed to get admission into Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State for National Diploma.
He started achieving worthwhile feats when he graduated from National Diploma in Welding and Fabrication as the Best in Department as well as second overall best in the whole school. He couldn’t further for his Higher National Diploma(HND) immediately for financial constraints but he later found away and this time still into the Petroleum Training Institute(PTI), Effurun, Delta State.
He applied to study Mechanical Engineering Technology because it is much related to Welding and Fabrication he had earlier studied.
Gracefully, he graduated from HND in 2019 as the overall best graduating student of Petroleum Training Institute amidst several other “best” awards. Without mincing words, he got close to 13awards to his name in the graduation ceremony namely:
1. Best overall graduate 2017/2018
2. Best HND mechanical engineering (Power and plant)
3. Best HND male graduate 2017/2018
4. Best HND graduate in Directorate of engineering
5. Best HND graduate in Mechanical Engineering department (Chevron Nigeria Limited Award)
6. Best HND graduate in Mechanical Engineering department (Mobil Nigeria Limited Award)
7. Best HND graduate in Mechanical Engineering department (Shell Petroleum Development Company Award)
8. Best HND graduate in Mechanical Engineering department (PTI alumni association award)
…and 5 other awards.
This sparked lots of reactions as everyone wanted to know how he achieved the resounding victories. Fortunately, the tribune.ng recorded the interview session he had with them where Benjamin answered a number of questions.
In his words, “I just chose to study Mechanical Engineering Technology. It’s an area I have an inclination for. I like anything relating to technology.”
He also added that what kept and helped him was focus and ability to wade off distractions with an innate drive to be the best and do everything within his reach to achieve it.
Speaking about the challenges he faced which were majorly financing but God always came through.
Also speaking on how he handled the tendency of having ladies flock around intelligent guys, he said he didn’t carve time out for them because he was always hustling to make ends meet.
Expressing his excitement being the best student, “I feel good, you know. The joy of every farmer is after planting and working day and night to tend his seeds, he makes bountiful harvest. So, when you receive a great harvest for a good job, you must be happy. That’s how I’m feeling right now.”
Excellent is an understatement to describe this kind of brilliance exuded by Chukwu Benjamin Ogbonna.
