Nigerians to Represent in Huawei ICT Skills Global Finals in China After Winning Regional Finals

The Huawei ICT Skills was launched in Nigeria 5years ago and has developed into the largest ICT Skills Competition in Africa.

The aim is to bridge the ICT talent gap, advance the digital transformation of industries, and bring digital to every person, home and organisation for a fully connected, intelligent world. The primary goal is to skill up more than 700,000 ICT professionals by 2023.

From 2019 – 2020, the competition has covered over 70countries gathering 150,000students from more than 2,000 universities and colleges. The Huawei ICT Competition, which generally covers examination on the latest ICT technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, mobile networks and big data.

This year’s Sub-Sahara African finals of the Huawei Global ICT Competition with the theme “Connection, Glory, Future”, kicked off on 10 September. The big event covered 14countries attracting over 50,000 students. The ceremony started and was attended by industry experts and partners where the significance of connecting in the era of social distancing was highlighted. The Southern Africa VP, Liao Yong took the presentation.

Due to the pandemic and restrictions, this year’s version of the ICT Competition was held online and delivered great value as it were to be offline.

At the just-concluded Huawei sub-Saharan Africa region ICT competition finals, Twelve Nigerian students have been confirmed to have won from the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Port Harcourt and thereby qualified for the Huawei Global ICT competition following an excellent performance in the cloud and network examination. The names of some of the representatives have listed: Dahir Muhammad, Abdullahi Muhammad Khalifa and Mustapha Abdullahi Jimoh from the Ahmadu Bello University; Abideen Bolaji Olaide, Badiru Toheeb Adeniyi from the University of Ibadan; Ugheoke Anthony Oshiobugie, Ukasanya Elma Tejiri, Ohagim Chinemere, Nwala Uchechi Blessing, Adebayo Samuel Oluwafemi from the University of Port-Harcourt.
