Nigerian Rules Over Africa Development Bank For The Second Time

The former minister for agriculture, Dr Akiwumi Adesina has been re-elected to preside over Africa Development Bank. He was unanimously elected virtually by the Board of Governors of AfDB.

The swearing-in took place on Tuesday 1st September 2020 at Abidjan, Cote D’ Ivoire. The occasion was graced with Ivorian representative, the former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar and over 200 external stakeholders. It was also witnessed virtually. The Former President of Nigeria, Johnathan Ebele who was a virtually part of the ceremony, expressed his confidence on Dr Adesina and commended him for his previous achievements.

The oath of office was administered by Ghanaian Finance Minster, Kenneth Ofori-Atta and was confident of Africa’s chosen leader.

The 8th President of Africa Developmental Bank, Dr Adesina said, “I am deeply grateful for the collective trust, strong confidence and support of our shareholders for electing me for a second term as President. It is yet another call for selfless service to Africa and the African Development Bank, to which I will passionately devote myself.”

Here are his prayers for his new tenure,
“God, as I start my second term as President of the African Development Bank, I humble myself before you.
I ask that you will grant me wisdom and that Africa will thrive and prosper.
Make Africa shine.”
