Medical Student Of Uniben Graduates With 19 Awards

One of the memorable days of Pius Ojemolon stay on campus, was his convocation day, when he received 19 awards. He was awarded as best graduating student in pathology, pharmacology, community health, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, and internal medicine; best graduating student in the School of Medicine; and best graduating student in the College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin.

“I wasn’t always reading; I usually read whatever my mind pointed at, and most of the time it depended on the posting I was in. So, the frequency of my reading varied and I was never able to stick to a reading schedule or timetable. Every time a new session began, I would draw a timetable but after a couple of weeks, I realised I could no longer follow it.” These were the answers provided by the young medical don of 2015/2016 set. Ironically, Ojemolon enjoyed reading everywhere expect the library because of its quiet environment.

He acknowledged the unflinching love and support of his parents and God’s grace. He said he doesn’t think any pair of parents would have raised his siblings and himself any better. His dad was an accountant and his mother was a biology teacher in secondary school.

Studying engineering was the intent of his heart, because of his skilful re-assembling of his childhood toys. But during his secondary school days, he made up his mind to study medicine and gave his mother some credit for that.

Ojemolon was not left without challenges. His biggest challenge was the battle of time management. He said 24 hours could not do justice to all he had to do. But thankfully he was able to manage his 24 hours well

In spite of the heat of medicine, Ojemolon had a keen interest in football. He enjoyed watching and playing football. He was the Director of Sports of University of Benin Medical Students Association for four successful years(2012 – 2014)

For his dreams, he said, “To become the best caregiver I can be and render quality services so I can better the lives of persons and improve public health.”
