Governor Zulum Performs Humanitarian and Developmental Activities at Baga

Being a leader is certainly not by title but by works. Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has proved this overtime through his personal involvement on issues related to the common man. He has paid visits to serval communities at Borno State showing his passion and drive to make development possible for all. This time he visited Baga, a community close to the shores of Lake Chad.

He spent nights and days at Baga to personally supervise the distribution of 50million cash, food items to 5,000 indigenes of Baga community.
Each of the 5,000 households, received a bag of rice, a bag of beans, a bag of maize grain and condiments and some cash.
Governor Zulum appreciated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and North East Development Commission (NEDC) who donated the packages.

Governor Zulum also took time out to inspect the progress of ongoing projects at Baga. He visited the General Hospital construction site.
“In the next 3 or 4 months, insha’Allah, I believe we can complete this general hospital because by the town is filled to its capacity, the existing primary healthcare centre cannot take care of the people,” Governor Zulum said. He also said all hands should be on deck to ensure the fast completion of the project.

Another project site he visited was the primary school construction site. He said work should be done at utmost speed so that pupils can get back to school.

While at Baga, Governor Zulum noticed the diligence of 15 volunteer workers. They passionately assisted medical practitioners to cater for resettled families. For their noticeable and commendable commitment, Governor Zulum awarded the 15 of them a scholarship to study medicine, nursing and midwifery at tertiary schools in Maiduguri, the state capital depending on their eligibility and individual interest.

The water board construction site at Baga was also visited by Governor Zulum at Baga. He instructed the ministry of water resources to liaise with the federal ministry of water to see the possibilities of the project taken over by the state government.
By the time the water board is fully constructed, it will be able to supply 80,000 gallons of water daily.

A moral boast visit was paid to the military formations at Baga. He approved the rehabilitation of two military locations he visited. He commended them for been patriotic

Haven done all these, Governor Zulum announced his next plan for Baga community. He said “Our next target is to reach Baga fish dam, the dam is very important in restoring means of livelihood for the people of Baga. Our current supply of food to the returnees is not sustainable in the long run, they need safe and dignified means of livelihood”
