Cuppy Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Otedola’s daughter, Florence Otedola (popularly known as DJ Cuppy). DJ Cuppy is also a Nigerian disc jockey and producer.
It was launched in August 2018 after being inspired by a trip to Maiduguri, Borno State. The organization focuses on improving the welfare of Nigeria’s vulnerable and marginalized children, picking special interest in early childhood education and healthcare among numerous other programmes.
DJ Cuppy said the foundation started as her way of giving back to society. The young philanthropist is also an ambassador of the “Save the Children” UK, a non-governmental organization as well. She joined the African advisory board of the NGO in 2018.
This further stresses her passion for having a large heart to give back to the less privileged. She is well known for her benevolent heart. She has impacted a lot in society by giving back and helping people in need. Recall that at the beginning of 2018, the disc jockey announced that she was sending ten people on a full scholarship through university, a promise she has actually fulfilled.
An event tagged “Gold Gala” was organized by DJ Cuppy at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Sunday and was well-attended by various dignitaries. Amongst the guests in attendance were but not limited to: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ; CEO , Save the Children , UK, Kevin Watkins ; Mr Femi Otedola ; Entrepreneur, Hajia Bola Shagaya ; Ambassador Babagana Kingibe ; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment , Niyi Adebayo ; Senator Gabriel Suswam, Minister of State for Transport , Gbemisola Saraki ; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole ; Alhaji Aliko Dangote ; and his daughter Hajia Halima Dangote ; the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulen Tallen ; former Governor of Borno State , Gen Buba Marwa ; Group CEO , Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu ; Governor of Lagos State , Babajide Sanwo – Olu ; Governor of Ogun State , Dapo Abiodun ; and Governor of Borno State , Babagana Zulum.
It was during the event that Tolani, another daughter of Femi Otedola who represented him at the event, made the announcement of a 5bn donation from Otedola.
Dangote(also known as DJ Cuppy’s godfather) also made a declaration of a 100m naira donation.
Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, speaking at the event told the guests that the event must refocus their minds on caring for the poor and malnourished especially in Nigeria.
According to the Vice President, in 2015, Buhari proposed the “ largest social investment programme in Africa ” to achieve about N500bn annually. He added, “ Yet we are far from where we ought to be. It is obvious that the government cannot do it alone. So, we shouldn’t all wait to be billionaires to do our part. Every one of us can decide to make a difference to ensure that the less fortunate also live a decent life”.
“All the monetary donations will be geared towards improving the status of the less privileged children through the foundation”. DJ Cuppy revealed this in a post on her Instagram page.
