Alaba Tam Danagogo Made History in The US as She Graduated as Overall Best Student of Syracuse University in 2021

Excellence is a trait that has not stopped exuding in Nigerians over the years. It cannot be stolen. It can only be worked for. Another Nigerian, Alaba Tam Danagogo has worked really hard to make us very proud.

Alaba is an Ijaw girl from Rivers State. Having completed her years of studying, fulfilling all necessary requirements from the Syracuse University, New York, United State of America; she graduated as the overall best student in the 2021 session after bagging many academic laurels. Some of which are Distinction in Biology major, Minor in English and Textual studies among others.

She was also awarded the prestigious 1870 scholarship by the university for another four years of medical studies, a scholarship that happens to be the most recognized scholarship offered by the Office of Admission of the university.

Being the best graduating student, having graduated summa cum laude with a 3.97 CGPA in a four-point system, Danagogo was the valedictorian for the 2021 graduation ceremony and was designated as a Senior Class Marshall of the university. She was also recognized as a Distinguished Syracuse University Scholar.

The Dean of the School of Arts and Science in the university, Prof. Karin Ruhlandt said, “Alaba’s study in Biology also included independent research related to the development of the brain’s neocortex which will eventually help scientists understand certain new developmental disorders.”

Still speaking said, “Alaba has volunteered at hospitals in Syracuse. She was also a student tutor and Event Coordinator for the Food Recovery Network as well as an international student mentor at the Connection Programme in the Centre of International Services. She has also served as Vice-President of the Aikido Sports Club in Syracuse.”

Sharing her experience in a nutshell, Alaba Danagogo said, “The journey was tough but I made the promise to myself to do my best and make my time at Syracuse University special for me. I hope to gain the necessary scientific skills to care for those in need and also bring my thoughts to bear through literature and creative writing.”

Addressing fellow students, she stated that flexibility and resilience were the keys to her academic success.

We are proud to celebrate this big win with Danagogo.
