A 16-year-old girl identified as Joy Abahi Amuh who attended the St. Paul Secondary School, Otukpo, Benue State, was given a cash prize of ₦500,000 for emerging as the best-graduating student who is from Benue State in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The ceremony was held in Makurdi, Benue State capital, the ceremony was the 6th Annual Literacy Project organized by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), they are in partnership with Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC).
Alex Adum, the BIPC Group Managing Director Alex Adum noted that it would help her to further her education pursuit which has been on hold because of the lack of financial assistance.
He also encouraged the need to reward academic excellence instead of focusing on the entertainment industry alone.
The Benue State’s first lady, her excellency Mrs. Eunice Ortom who is also the founder of ESLF congratulated the awardee and encouraged other girls to emulate her
Amuh expressed gratitude towards the BIPC and ESLF for the money which would assist her in achieving her goals.
The Principal of the school where Amuh attended said that she was a very hardworking and intelligent student who deserved the award.
Although she graduated with an excellent result, she was unable to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) due to a lack of funds.
Amuh teaches in a primary school in Otukpo where she was trying to save money to continue with her education.
