Ekene Franklin is a 15year-old Nigerian who has just graduated from the Meiran Community Secondary School, Meiran, Outskirt of Lagos.
He is a son to Mr and Mrs Ezeunala. His father was a technician with the former NITEL and had since been practising the trade. He recently got retirement benefits under the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD). His mother happens to be a teacher in a private school in Lagos. Precisely, Hightree College, Berger, Lagos.
We presume his mother must have groomed him to reproduce the exceptional skills he exhibits.
In 2019, amongst a total of 1,886,507 candidates that sat for the JAMB exam, Ekene had the highest score of 347 out of 400. This made him emerge the highest-scoring JAMBite as confirmed by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
While he was a student, he had represented his school in numerous inter-school competitions. Some were organized by the Lagos State Government and some other, by other bodies. He had always maintained top prizes in all.
An instance is the 2019 American Maths Competition where he won has a gold medalist amongst the 90countries in the world that participated.
In an interview with him on how he could get such high JAMB score. He said he planned for 370 but rather saw 347. However, he remained happy and grateful. In his words, “The score I was targeting was 370. I still feel happy that I still achieved a good result.” No doubt, he really aimed high.
He had a challenge regarding his age as he was just 15 and Nigerian public tertiary institutions wouldn’t let you in until aged 16. Gracefully, he was offered a scholarship at a private University in Abia State. Academic City College, Ghana also offered him a full scholarship worth $40,000.
We celebrate this young brainiac.
